Alright guys, so today we’re going to be talking about patience. If you’ve been reading this blog at all, you will know through and through that I believe in focusing on your dreams and goals and visualising them. However, I feel as though I have failed you guys slightly with the content I have been creating and writing.
Let me be more specific. While focusing on your dreams, goals and aspirations and slowly making them a reality every day is a great thing, I have failed to touch on how patience will be one of the most important things you will employ in order to make those visualisations and aspirations a reality.
Why Patience Will be the Most Powerful Character Trait
If you cannot get the big picture inside of your head, I don’t personally believe that anything worth while is possible. One must create and hold an image in their heads surrounding what they want out of life. Something that inspires you to wake up everyday and live your life to the fullest. Maybe you’re already doing this, and that’s great! Keep going.
However, if you don’t have any objectives or something worth while to strive towards, I highly recommend you head over here to read that article on how to establish a path for yourself and hopefully find your life’s purpose.
However, for the most part, I have had a life purpose at one time or another in my life so that specifically wasn’t my issue. My issue was running everywhere I was trying to go and wondering why I was getting tired in the process and giving up.
Well, the simple answer to this is that one must establish a goal/path to follow, and then never get off that path. It’s better to jog at a steady pace and stay in the race rather than sprint everywhere, get tired and give up half way through without having reached the finish line.
A slow, steady, focused pace will make sure you are consistently getting closer and closer to your goals and you won’t have to worry about running out of steam.
Once you establish a goal for yourself, it is almost mandatory to have patience. Virtually nothing worth while in life is possible to achieve quickly or without effort – or especially overnight.
If you have the objective in your head, just do what it takes everyday to get closer to it – and don’t fret too much if you don’t seem like you’re making much headway.
What is the MAIN Killer of Patience, Persistence and Perseverance?
Well, if patience, perseverance and persistence are your golden tickets to anything you want in life, what is the MAIN killer of these character traits?
Not trusting that the process you’re doing is working. When you trust the process and develop discipline to see things through (at least until a point where you can truly say that your efforts did not pay of) you can rest assured that you will be led to success.
Even if your current project isn’t going exactly the way you want it to, you will have enough energy in the tank to try something else repeatedly until something works out. This is where patience is KEY.
When you don’t believe in what you’re doing and you don’t see how it could ever turn out the way you want you will quickly watch your patience dwindle into nothing because you are not seeing success fast enough.
Just remember one important thought. You will never go from where you are to waking up one day to being a millionaire. Or super jacked. Or having a gorgeous wife. Not gonna happen. However, as Earl Nightingale always says, “Success is the progressive realisation of a worthy ideal.” This essentially means that your successes will slowly compound more and more over time so you may as well enjoy the little ones as they happen.
You may as well, therefore, be patient – because it’s either that, or you won’t get to where you want to be going anyway. It’s your pick. Patience can easily be learned. Learn how to employ it and watch your life transform. No one accomplished anything crazy in two days. Neither will you.
How Do I Remain Patient When What I am Doing is Not Working [Yet]?
You see, this is the biggest question that I ask myself all the time. If what I am currently doing (for example: bodybuilding, blogging etc.) isn’t providing results yet, how do I keep going and remain patient that my work will eventually pay off?
Well, there’s no magic bullet. That’s where trusting the process and focusing on your worthy ideal come in to play.
Let me give you a specific example. I am currently on the path to develop my best possible physique that I could ever dream of. Am I there yet? Hell no! Will I ever get there? HELL NO! My goal physique is not a destination – it’s a process. I will more than likely never be satisfied one day and say, ‘ok, I am done. I have made it. I am jacked, look great and now I can relax.’ I will never say that.
What I will be doing, however, is constantly striving to improve and get better at everything I do. See, patience is not about seeing you through to the end result so that you can chill and relax. Patience will allow you to keep putting one foot in front of the other, indefinitely.
Once you start imagining things as a life-long journey you will naturally be inclined to embrace patience. Without this, nothing you ever set out to do will ever come to fruition and it would be a shame.
If I gave up on the attainment of my goal physique because I haven’t seen results in 1 year, that would just be silly because I have already put in that year.
What’s another year now? I have already gotten this far. And another year after that?
It’s nothing in the grand scheme of things because I can either keep chugging along or I can simply just give up and remain where I am today. I don’t want that. I want to advance and get better.
I Experience Frustration Too, You Know
If you’re on this website, I am guessing you’re trying to learn about how to become the best version of yourself and build the life/body of your dreams.
I am out to do the same thing. I won’t let anything stop me or get in my way – even my own frustration.
Let me be very clear about something: I get frustrated just like everyone else out there. Sometimes even more than you. There are weeks I put in to the gym or my business ventures that don’t pay off whatsoever and it definitely sparks a feeling of frustration and anger within me. However, I do not let this stop me from moving forward anyway.
I can either stay stuck in my negative thought patterns and remain where I am today or I can embrace all of the challenges in my life and use those to become stronger and better.
I good friend of mine used to say, ‘Nothing in life worth doing is easy. If it were easy, everyone would be doing it’. Truer words have never been spoken as far as I am aware.
However, frustration means that you must be on the right path. Anyone that I have known that has becomes successful has had to deal with some kind of frustration at some point during their business ventures.
You must find the audacity and resolve necessary to employ levels of patience that you’ve never thought you would be capable of!
Have you found yourself impatient about something? For me, it’s been fitness and muscle development.
Let me know what you think about this in the comments below – I would love to learn about how you’ve been able to employ patience into your character!
