When it comes to eating for health we don’t pull any punches and our editor Michael is all about making the healthiest possible decisions when it comes to his own personal nutrition.
As a matter of fact, all of us on the team are all about health-conscious decisions whether it be our own personal foods we choose to eat or activities we choose to partake in.
Today we’re going to be talking about how to make smoothies at home because we feel this is one of the best possible ways to make food that comes pretty much 100% from the earth while getting a delicious snack and one that is wholesome and nutritious to boot.
What Foods Do You Enjoy Eating?
The first step when considering making smoothies is to think about all of the foods you already love to eat that perhaps somewhat bore you.
Although not an exhaustive list, here are some main culprits that may be keeping you bored and robbing your eating life of excitement:
- cottage cheese
- almond milk
- frozen veggies
. . . and the list goes on and on. Who wants to be bored of their diet their entire life and eat the same boring thing over and over again without switching things up and making it exciting?
We want you to not only get in great shape and eat healthy just for the sake of it, but we want you to enjoy the process as well!
What better way to love your food than to prepare it in a way that makes it delicious.
There really is no shortage of ways to prepare your food in a smoothie fashion and virtually any food that you can think of can be put into it with the exception of maybe meats and potatoes and other things like that which we think would be disgusting to be honest with you.
However, regular household foods like the ones we’ve mentioned above are perfect candidates to be added into a smoothie and crushed together with some ice to make an absolutely delicious, healthy and nutritious beverage that your whole family can enjoy.
Best of all, you can even pull up this party chirping friends come over as well and they will probably never want to leave and you’ll probably be seeing them again soon.
So think about all of the different foods you love and think about whether they would work together or not.
Some examples would be strawberries, bananas and Greek yogurt; blueberries, almonds and cottage cheese; spinach, kale and any selection of frozen fruits and Greek yogurt; and so much more!
If you just put your mind to it I’m sure you can come up with tons of options that will be delicious to you and will allow you to consume your Foods in a new light making you enjoy eating once again.
You Need the Right Equipment
Now, this definitely goes without saying but if you don’t already have a blender or some kind of device that will allow you to crush food together then you will definitely want to pick one up.
This is going to be virtually the only way to make a smoothie worth talking about, unless you have an immersion blender which are usually better left for soups and things like that.
Blenders can range and pricing and features you definitely don’t have to really spend any less than $100 to get a good quality device that will last you for years. The same can even be said if you use the blender every single day in the morning or at lunch.
Some other things to have on hand would be ice ready in the freezer, frozen fruits, frozen vegetables such a spinach kale, and any combination of cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, honey, nuts, artificial sweeteners if that’s your thing – and I’ve even known some people that put coffee in to their smoothies which sounds delicious as well.
Other than those things, you really don’t need much else to get going making delicious smoothies. One thing you might want to have on hand as well as either some milk, almond milk or any other alternatives if you don’t like those too sometimes water itself even works as well.
If you don’t have a blender, we highly suggest you check out our best blenders for this year buying guide so you can get a good idea of the type of blender that you’ll need to make smoothies that you’ll love for years to come.

If You Want to Be Excited, Do It Right!
Nothing destroys excitement more than just doing the same tried and tested thing over and over again. Even if you’re someone who enjoys the same schedule, it’s always nice to change things up.
As you can see, creating your own smoothies is a great way to make some awesome recipes come to life in an absolutely delicious fashion!
We always love to inform our readers of the best possible approach to do anything and making your approach one that you love is definitely one of our top priorities.
With the right ingredients, equipment and effort, you can definitely make the most delicious smoothies for your whole family.
Smoothies Can be Prepared the Night Before
This is probably one of our favourite features of making smoothies. Most blenders can be torn apart for easy dishwasher cleaning, but not only that – you can make all of your smoothies the night before and use something like a mixing cup to give it a quick shake in the morning and you’re all set to go!
Just get up, get ready, grab & you’re off to the races with your delicious fruit beverage.
We love that idea and it’s certainly something we implement here as well. The more preparation for any given life situation, the better in our eyes, and a little snack preparation surely goes a long way to making the whole process a much more enjoyable one.
