Workout Routines for Men Over 50: Get the Perfect Male Body Even at 50 Plus

Posted by

*QUICK PREFACE: If you’re a woman, over 50 (or any age really) check out my great article about working out if you’re a woman over 50 (or any age) here. This will help you out if you’re female!

So you are male, you’re over 50, and you’ve put off working out your entire life until now: What the %$@# do you do NOW?

There is an article I wrote for women regarding bodybuilding over 50 and it went something like this:

If you want something badly enough, you will do it regardless of your current life situation whether it’s age or any other excuse (unless you have a physical disability that genuinely prevents you from achieving a certain feat of physicality).

Fret not – this article has you covered and will go over exactly what you need to do to get the perfect workout routine if you’re a man over 50!

If you’re patient enough to read the whole article, I even share with you a bloke by the name of Marcus Bondi – a 50-something year old man that’s in better shape than any one I personally know – and I am in my 30s!!

Why is it Important to Start Working Out TODAY?

Whether you’re 16, 18, 25, 35 or 65 years old – you can begin to craft the body you’ve always dreamt of today.

Think of it this way: In order to craft the perfect physique, you must spend at least 5 years building it -that’s if you want to maximise the amount of natural muscle your body can build . HOWEVER – herein lies the important fact – you begin reaping the positive benefits of working out far before these 5 years!

If you’re 20, 30 or even 60, what’s 5 years of your life when you still have 30-60 years to live?

I would even go on to argue that you wouldn’t be living life to the fullest unless your body and mind are as healthy as they can be.

One of the main problems in the fitness community these days is the amount of incorrect information or just straight up lies. These “gimmicky” items, diets, pieces of equipment – you name it – have no bearing on your ability to be in fantastic shape.

For men over 50 this might even be more concerning. As you may know, men’s hormonal production (especially testosterone) begins slowly diminishing after around age 35. from 18-35 is called your “prime”.

However, the medical community at large has failed to provide the information to provide the information that lifting weights is directly linked to an increased production of DHT – dihydrotestosterone.

As we know, testosterone is quite important to build muscle whether you’re male or female, but it has been shown that DHT can have more of an effect on this.

When testosterone is one of the most widely prescribed medications in the United States in males over 50, it’s no wonder we begin to see the health implications of lowered testosterone.

The workout program I am currently doing at 30 years old is working wonders – however, many men in their 40s and 50s have had even more insane results.

For an awesome fitness plan that any man can follow, I highly recommend checking out Visual Impact by Rusty Moore.

Rusty began his fitness journey at 17 while being laughed at by his sister’s boyfriend stating, “you need real weights to gain muscle!”

Check out Rusty’s article and program for men below.

How The Right Workout Routine Can Help Increase Testosterone Production and Get You in Incredible Shape at Any Age

Gone are the days of all kinds of different people advocating for this or that or the other thing whilst not having had any personal experience with any of it.

Personal experience trying different things is key in my mind to opening up your mind to them and discovering whether it’s something that does or does NOT work for any given person.

How many guys over 50 – your friends, family members etc. – do you personally know with a shredded physique?

Do you know any other 50-something year old men that complain about:

    • having no energy
    • feeling tired and worn down
    • having too much fat on their bodies
    • being sore whether in their backs or other body parts
    • not being able to see their abs (or not EVER having been able to see them)
    • wanting to be stronger so they can play with their kids (or grand kids) but just not having the strength
    • having little to zero sex drive to sex up their wives (or girlfriends!) – this one makes me too, too sad
    • sagging breast muscle skin and sagging body parts
    • spare tires
    • poor posture
    • having that age-old staple of a middle aged man: The Gut

Well, I know quite a few men over 50 that suffer from these issues. Actually, I’d wager a bet to say that most men over 50 suffer from some form of these issues.

I actually wrote an article about this a few days ago that specifically was discussing similar issues with women and I just want to let you know that it doesn’t have to be this way for you.

Having the correct fitness information and workout routine can and will do wonders for all of the aforementioned issues.

Imagine having:

  • more energy than you had when you were in your 20s
  • more muscle development than when you played football in your senior high school years (let’s be honest – your “size” was probably just fat)
  • tight, toned and firm skin and muscles that will drive your wife or women wild!
  • incredible posture – the posture of a Greek God
  • having the token signs of virility, sexual attractiveness and masculinity (no one wants to have a wimpy, frail dude by their side)
  • having the Perfect Male Proportions – that V-shape taper that is the key indicator of fitness in males
  • the desire to have sex with your wife or girlfriend anytime she wishes to (thank goodness for DHT/testosterone!)

As long as you have the right fitness information, you can have all of the above things even at age 50, 60 or even 70. You might argue that these things become less important as you age, but for now, while I am still 30 years old, I will say that these things will always matter to me!

Now that might change when I am 50 or 60, but hey, we can’t predict the future!

Point of the story: Get the right fitness information and age will no longer matter. For 20-somethings, any workout will yield great results, even if you’re already quite seasoned.

When you’re 50 plus, the story kind of changes slightly.

A Man of 20 Years DOES NOT Have an Advantage Over a Man of
50 Years!

Alright guys, this section makes me way too excited because I am going to use this as an opportunity to prove everything I have said above.

When you have the right fitness information, it does not matter how old or young you are – being in perfectly acceptable and great shape is something that a 20 year old and 50 year old can have equally.

Down below, I am going to show you a video clip of a bloke called Marcus Bondi – he’s a 50-something male from Australia and he’s probably in better shape than ANY 20-something year old man I have personally ever seen.

Marcus does things that I have actually never even seen anyone do in real life. I certainly haven’t done the things this gentleman shows myself even. He’s insanely strong, looks insanely great and doesn’t appear to even be in his 50s.

I strongly urge you to check out the below video clip and tell me if you think that Marcus:

  • has excuses for why he’s not in insanely great shape?
  • is not in good shape?
  • lets his age determine his ability to be physically fit?
  • takes the common knowledge that bodybuilding is impossible at 50 plus as truth?

You’ll soon discover that his answers to all of the above is a resounding NO.

Marcus is the embodiment and proof that any male over 50 can be not only in great shape but in BETTER shape than most 20-year-olds!

Keep also in mind that one thing that distinctly separates this man from most 20-year-olds is his insane work-ethic which simply put, most 20-something year olds do not possess.

However, YOU at 50-something have developed a far superior work ethic than most younger chaps that I have encountered which will make your journey to ultimate fitness all the more attainable.

Marcus even holds the world-record for ROPE CLIMBING! Whaaaaat? At 50-something?

Check out the following clip of Marcus. Marcus’s insane physique and absolutely jaw-droppingly ripped body is something that most 20-something year olds I personally know aspire towards but will ultimately never achieve because they do not have the right fitness information.

We’re Going to Wrap This Up and Get You Set Up With the RIGHT Fitness Information

  1. This is great! I am an avid weightlifter and martial artist (although I’m just shy of 40, not 50), and I can attest that age does not have the impact people often think. I work out with many other guys who are in their 50s and 60s who look freaking amazing and can outlift me with their eyes closed. This should not be neglected, as aging is simply an excuse for not getting out there and making it happen! 🙂

    1. Hi Steve, I totally agree. When I was about 13-20 I did martial arts myself and many of my senseis were 40+ and they absolutely kicked ass. So I’d say age is just a number and if you stay nimble and in shape, you should be good to go!

  2. Great Post ! I myself am into crossfit and healthy eating and am a few years away from 50. I would also love more muscle building programs out there for women. I am craving for more muscle definition and a little hypertrophy . Age is definitely not an excuse. Get it done folks !!

    1. Hey Dini, thank you so much for stopping by! If you’re interested in learning more about fitness for women, I would highly recommend you check out the two reviews I wrote on the Kinobody Goddess Toning Program or the Kinobody KinoBOOTY Program. I will link them at the end of the comment. Women have literally begged Kinobody to release these courses because women all over have been dying to know how to get those “perfect proportionate body”.

      Anyway here they are:

      Thanks for stopping in!

  3. That man is a true inspiration, I am currently in college and I’m on the Cross team and I still perform calisthenics/body weight exercises every day because it is so essential to maintaining a perfect physique. He is proof that if you fall in love with the process and stay with it you will see great results.

This is my first time on this website and I’m interested in Kinobody. Is it focused on body weight training As well?

Also I respect the honesty information and not trying to sell some bull for profit.

Keep it up man look forward to the next article

    1. Hey Brandon thanks for stopping by man! Yeah absolutely. It is proof right there, right in the pudding!

Kinobody is focused on heavy, key compound movements such as incline bench, weighted chin ups, dips, bulgarian squats, pistol squats, and deadlifts. You also do overhead pressing motions which I believe are some of the most advanced fitness principles today.

If you search the site you can find information on the Bodyweight Mastery Program, the Greek God Program and a couple for women as well.

Keep your eyes peeled because I will be releasing reviews on the Superhero Bulking Program (which is aimed at those that have completed the Greek God Program) and the Warrior Shredding Program (for those wanting to get a little more ripped and muscular) but isn’t quite as effective at muscle building as the Greek God Program.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

  4. Michael,
Great post! This makes me want to become healthier and to start making a change in my life as well. Although, I am not a male I believe your information was spot on and whether your 20 or 50 if your thinking about making a change to your physique the time should be now. Where should I start for a beginner like myself? I haven’t worked out in years and I am about 50lbs overweight. What do you suggest? thank again

    1. Hey Sholanda, thanks so much for stopping by! If you’re a beginner (male or female) you can check out my article on great beginner workouts – however, if you’re female specifically, you might be interested in checking out my article on bodybuilding for women here: https://physiqueauthority.com/bodybuilding-for-women-over-50-why-age-is-just-a-number-that-you-should-ignore

Additionally, here are two fantastic reviews for Kinobody Women’s Fitness:
      1) Kinobody Goddess Toning: https://physiqueauthority.com/kinobody-goddess-toning-review-get-in-great-shape-and-lose-weight-for-women
      2) Kinobody KinoBOOTY: https://physiqueauthority.com/?s=kinobooty

The women have been begging Kinobody to release programs specifically for women so check out those reviews if you’re interested in learning more.

  5. At 55 I look far better and am stronger than most 25 year olds in the gym. Yet, a 20 year old surely has an advantage! Over 40 the body starts deteriorating no matter what you do. If you’re in better shape at 55 than 25 its because you were a slacker in youth.

The motto- start early and don’t ever give up.

    1. Hey Warren. If that’s what you believe – that your body breaks over 40 – then that’s your belief and I can’t change that. However, I choose to think of life differently. Why does a body break down after 40? Is it because it actually breaks down or because nearly everyone out there says so?

I would invite you to re-think your way of thinking and thing of the body as something that’s capable of great things. Surely one at 75 will not be in as good of shape as 20 – but 30, 40, 50 and even 60 – there’s no argument. If a middle-aged man is having difficulties with testosterone over 50, there’s TRT (testosterone replacement therapy) that can aid, but naturally speaking, I know many great athletes that are in better shape than 99 percent of 20-somethings I have ever met.

Hope to see you again and I hope you enjoy the rest of your day!

    1. Hey Cesar, yes, he looks very incredible. Keep in mind he’s been doing these workouts since age 18 or so. I can’t really comment on the status of his TRT because I just don’t know the person personally so it would be unfair for me to pass judgement regarding this.

With that said, however, I highly doubt he’s on TRT and anyone who thinks that that sort of physique is unattainable at that age without TRT would be, in my mind, seriously ill-informed!

      Thanks for stopping by!
